How to Apply for College

Apply early for more financial aid, scholarships, housing and class options.

Are you a freshman?

If you have not earned college credits after graduating from high school, you're considered a freshman and should follow the process below to apply to UND. If you have attended college after high school graduation, follow the process for transfer students.

Apply as a Transfer Student

1. Meet Admissions Requirements

Carefully review the Freshman Admissions Requirements to learn what is required to be admitted to UND.

2. Complete Application

Apply up to one year in advance of when you plan to start at UND.

Applications are being accepted for the summer 2023, fall 2023 and spring 2024 semesters.

Create an Admissions Account

Before starting your application, you need to set up a UND Admissions Account.

You'll log in to your Admissions Account to:

  • Start, save and submit your online application
  • Check your application status
  • View your application checklist
  • See admission decisions
  • Confirm your enrollment

You will receive emails throughout the process on the status of your application. It's your responsibility to ensure all submitted materials were received and attached to the application. Please monitor your Admissions Account and email.

  • Applicants are charged a $35 (U.S. funds) non-refundable fee. Application fees are waived for McNair Scholars.
  • Your application status will be “incomplete” until all materials (e.g., transcripts) are received and processed.
  • We recommend using Google Chrome when completing the application. If you run into issues with items not displaying, clear your cache and cookies.

Review Additional Academic Program Requirements

If your academic program has additional admission requirements, you may be asked to complete a separate application to be accepted into your program. Consult the requirements page(s) in the Program Finder to see if your program has additional requirements beyond the general university admission standards.

Application Deadlines

Note: If you're an international student, refer to the international application process for deadlines.

Fall:

  • Nov. 1 (Aviation Management and Commercial Aviation majors only)
  • Feb. 1 (priority deadline)
  • Aug. 16 (final deadline)

Spring: Dec. 15

Summer: May 1

Freshman Scholarship Deadline

To automatically be awarded the UND Freshman Scholarship, you must meet the criteria and submit your completed application by Feb. 1 for the upcoming fall semester.

Aerospace Students

Aviation Management and Commercial Aviation (Airplane) are no longer accepting applications for fall 2023. The next term available is fall 2024. Applications open Aug. 1, 2023 with an application deadline of Nov. 1, 2023. This deadline does not apply to Commercial Aviation (Helicopter).

Readmission

Undergrad students who leave the University for at least one semester, not including summer semester, are required to apply for readmission.

3. Request Transcripts

Official High School Transcripts

Request your official high school transcripts to be sent directly to UND. Transcripts can be sent electronically through a secured electronic transcript service or by mail in a sealed envelope to:

UND Office of Admissions
3501 University Ave Stop 8357
Grand Forks, ND 58202-8357

College Level Credits

If you've completed any college-level credits, request that your official college transcripts be sent directly from the college or university to UND with the directions above. Typically, official college-level credits are not included on your high school transcripts.

Report GPA

Self-report your high school GPA on your application for a quicker admission decision. We will make a preliminary admission offer if you meet our admission guidelines. You’ll be asked to confirm your academic status by providing an official transcript at a later date. Official transcripts are required to receive a scholarship offer.

4. Request ACT/SAT Scores (Optional)

No test scores are required.

However, if you've taken the ACT or SAT, you can submit your official scores to help with placement in English and math courses, and to qualify for select scholarships. Request your official standardized test scores be sent directly to UND.

  • ACT Scores = UND Code #3218
  • SAT Math & Verbal Scores = UND Code #6878
